Higher Stavordale Farm in Somerset has been in the Kimber family for many generations, of which they have been providing quality milk to local Somerset cheese makers. Son Thomas Kimber is currently enjoying his second generation of ADF System in the milking parlour, after originally installing it over 10 years ago.
Before ADF, Tom and his family were fed up of seeing cows walking out of the parlour without any teat dip on their udders. Immediately after installing the ADF System Tom saw the dramatic difference in teat dip application. “Straight away you’ve got the consistency of the teat coverage, which is a great thing,” he says.
Tom also quickly noticed a reduction in clinical mastitis cases. “We’d always find we’d get one case of mastitis, and within two or three days we’d get two or three more. It was quickly proven that it was being passed around the parlour,” explains Tom. Thanks to the automatic flushing of the ADF System, mastitis cases are no longer an issue on the farm. “Having that disinfecting of the cluster between each cow certainly stops that spread round the parlour.”
“I just really like it because it delivers consistency to a very routine-based job. It’s a very simple system and cost-effective,” Tom says. “I don’t understand why you would go for one of the other lookalike ADF Systems because none of them do the dipping, they only do the flushing.”
