General

The ADF System is an automatic dipping and flushing milking parlour add-on. It automatically dips the cow’s teats when they have finished milking. Once the milking unit is released, the machine automatically flushes each cluster, ensuring the inflation is thoroughly rinsed and sanitised before being attached to the next cow.

After milking is complete, the ADF System uses the signal from the Automatic Cluster Removers (ACR’s) to begin the dipping process. Teat dip is applied while the cluster is still in situ on the cow through injectors, at the optimal angle, ensuring the teat is fully protected prior to exposure to the parlour environment.

After the cluster has been released, the flushing cycle begins. The ADF System introduces a precisely measured combination of peracetic acid, water, and air into each inflation via the injectors. This is repeated six times. This process sanitises the milking unit, preventing the risk of bacteria being transmitted between cows.

The ADF System is compatible with any type of milking parlour, any brand and any configuration, new or existing parlour. However, the milking parlour must have ACR’s (automatic cluster removers).

Every ADF System is offered with a Continuous Supply Programme. This agreement ensures that you will be supplied with inflations, teat dip and peracetic acid, delivered on time when you need them. Your ADF System will be serviced every 6 months to give you the best possible functionality and performance.

The Continuous Supply Programme (CSP) by ADF Milking provides customers with assured, uninterrupted delivery of essential consumables. This includes inflations, injectors, teat dip and peracetic acid, ensuring consistent operational continuity. The CSP also incorporates a lifetime warranty on parts and biannual comprehensive servicing, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the ADF System.

Installation

On your farm, the installation team will need access to; a source of clean potable water, an air compressor of suitable specification (this varies depending on the milking parlour and can be discussed with the ADF technical team prior to installation) and a mains power outlet in the parlour. Your parlour needs to have ACR’s (automatic cluster removers). Phone the ADF technical line to discuss further on +44 (0)1243 814030 Option 3.

You will need ACR’s in your milking parlour because the ADF System is connected to the vacuum shut off or ACR. Once the cow has let down all their milk, the ACR will then start to remove the cluster. This is when the ADF System will begin the dip and flush process.

The ADF System typically comprises of four major components; a stainless steel pump cabinet which is usually installed in the pump room, individual stall boxes (one at each milking point), the ADF yellow milking clusters and one Main Controller, plus additional tubing and cabling.

Your custom ADF System can be manufactured in as little as 4-6 weeks, with installation lead time usually being 8-10 weeks from purchase agreement.

Depending on the parlour size, installation usually takes a couple of days, carried out in between milking times so there is no disruption to your milking routine.

The ADF System will be installed by your local approved ADF partner.

Inflations

ADF offer a wide range of inflations to suit your herd’s specific needs, including round, square, and low-tension options.

It is important for inflations to retain their tension to give the correct milking action. Therefore, ADF Milking recommends that inflations should be changed every 2,000 milkings.

ADF inflations are unique and can be purchased directly from the ADF web shop or from the extensive approved ADF Milking dealer network.

Shells

The ADF shells are manufactured from a reinforced composite material making them incredibly strong. The engineered composite material has resilience and is very difficult to break if trodden on.

A standard ADF cluster weighs 2kg. ADF Milking will look to match the weight of your existing clusters to ensure a smooth transition for your cows. In the standard ADF System the cluster weight can be between 1.7kg and 2.5kg.

Teat Dip

Per activation the ADF System uses 8ml of teat dip per cow, which is 2ml per teat.

With the ADF System, dip is applied to the teat at the optimum angle using dual injection technology, whilst the milking cluster is still attached to the cow, ensuring maximum teat coverage.

ADF Milking offers a wide range of teat dips to suit your herd, including Chlorhexidine, Lactic Acid and Iodine based teat dips. The ADF experts can help you find the teat dip that is most suitable to your circumstances, so you get the best results from your ADF System.

Using non ADF approved chemicals for the ADF System will invalidate your warranty as there is no guarantee the effectiveness of the product and compatibility with the ADF Milking system components. ADF has a range of teat dip options to suit your needs.

Immediately after milking there is negative pressure in the udder and the teat canal is open. Therefore, when a conventional milking unit detaches, any bacteria on the end of the teat can be drawn back up the teat canal within seconds. The importance of dipping a teat immediately after milking is to deny that bacteria from entering the open teat canal, protecting cows when they are most vulnerable. Dipping the teat whilst still inside the liner also ensures that total surface area coverage of a distended teat can be achieved. After application, the dip that drips off the teat end confirms that any remaining bacteria is fully removed.

Flushing

The ADF System only uses 330ml of sanitised water per flushing cycle, which is the same amount as a standard drinks can.

The ADF System flushes up to six times with peracetic acid, water and air and takes approximately 15 seconds to flush completely before it is ready for the next cow.

The main importance of flushing the unit out after milking is to remove any milk residue which could have contaminates, to ensure the cluster is clean and sanitised for the next cow.

Without sanitising each inflation between cows, you can affect the next seven cows that milk with one cluster? So, if a cow has a high cell count or a case of mastitis that wasn’t previously identified, the next seven cows that are milked with that same cluster could be infected as well.

Benefits

On average, the ADF System will save you roughly 15 seconds per cow.

Farmers report some immediate benefits such as shorter milking times, calmer cows and a clean milk filter at the end of milking. Other benefits such as overall herd health and improved teat condition you will notice over time.

The majority of ADF customers report that teat condition improves after the ADF System is installed. This enhancement is the result of how the ADF System accurately applies teat dip to the entire teat surface whilst it is fully distended within the inflation. The ADF Milking teat dip is formulated for rapid absorption, which is facilitated by application during the post-milking period when pores are open and more receptive to absorbing the emollients.

InVent

InVent is the intelligent venting technology which is an optional extra to the ADF System. InVent individually monitors and regulates vacuum levels within the hood of the inflation during milking. When a vacuum threshold is reached, InVent will vent the hood of the inflation by introducing clean filtered air, relieving the pressure around the teat. This is performed on a teat-by-teat basis.

The InVent technology alleviates high hood vacuum which can be dangerous during milking as it causes swelling in the teat, both externally and internally, which restricts the teat canal, slowing down milk flow and preventing full milk out. Excessive vacuum can cause damage to the teat end. With InVent there will be noticeably less teat ringing, improved milk let down and peak milk flow.

The main benefits of the vented InVent inflations are; reducing teat congestion, improving teat condition and udder health, creating calmer cows and encouraging faster milk let down helping to achieve a more complete milking which can result in higher milk yields.
