ADF Milking system in the news and at exhibitions

ADF WINS TOP INNOVATION AWARD AT 2011 DAIRY CONFERENCE

The revolutionary, automated teat dipping and flushing system (ADF) has won the prestigious Dairy Innovators Award at this year’s Australian Dairy Conference, held in Busselton, WA on the 22 and 23 February 2011.

The Award is presented each year to the company involved in cutting edge research and development, from both the university and commercial sectors, who can showcase an idea, product or service that will genuinely make a difference to the way we dairy farm.

The ADF system, which recently won the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmer’s Livestock Machinery and Equipment Award at the 2010 UK Dairy Event and Livestock Show, is now popular with hundreds of dairy farmers in the UK and around the world.

Studies carried out by Ian Ohnstad of The Dairy Group have demonstrated significant savings in labour costs, while the health benefits of ADF include fewer cases of mastitis and lower somatic cell counts.  The system’s precise delivery of teat dip has been shown to lead to more efficient use of teat dip chemicals and reduced labour and energy consumption due to increased throughput of the dairy.

At the end of milking, the system delivers a calibrated dose of teat spray into the head of each liner, automatically covering the entire teat, as the cluster is removed.  After removal, the teat-cups are rinsed by blasting a sanitised water solution around the liner creating a scrubbing action.  This is repeated six times in quick succession after every cow, ensuring liners are properly sanitised before further use.

James Duke, director of ADF Milking, says: “The first ADF systems were installed in Australia in July 2010, and are popular with farmers looking to improve the health of their herd and the quality of milk they produce”.

Those who install the system, benefit financially due to improved herd health, reduced labour,  energy and chemical costs.
